The Meghan Issue
MEGHAN MARKLE is to appear on the front cover of the anniversary issue of Tatler magazine – where she is praised for bringing “a breath of California cool to the drab and dusty corridors” of the royal palaces. Unlike the September edition of British Vogue, which the Duchess guest edited, Meghan was not involved in the making of the issue.
Does she conquer or divide?
The issue will feature the results of a nationwide poll asking for “the country’s opinions on Meghan” as well as thought pieces on the Duchess by a variety of writers.
The issue will go on sale on October 31 and will feature an archival photograph of Meghan Markle taken by photographer Janick Laurent. The issue was revealed on Tatler’s Instagram and featured the cover line, “The Meghan Issue: Does she conquer or divide?”

Tatler Nicole Kidman Cover January 2020
Hollywood titan Nicole Kidman saddles up for the New Twenties, a 2020 vision to mark the new decade, she opens up about taking risks, finding love again and a future of big little highs. It is a brilliant editorial by Annabel Sampson.
Impeccably styled
Kidman is impeccably styled by Tatler’s Sophie Pera and photographed by Jack Waterlot. In the cover image, she smoulders in a jersey blazer over a taffeta shirt (both by Fendi), a vintage Chanel pearl necklace and the outfit’s punctuation mark, a felt top hat by Lock & Co. Hatters (a favourite with the royals).
What Lady Mary did next?
Michelle Dockery spent a decade living 100 years in the past – as Lady Mary in Downton Abbey. Now she’s gearing up for a dazzling future. Her latest role is something of a volte-face: dropping F-bombs alongside Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant in Guy Ritchie’s latest, The Gentlemen. ‘It came quite naturally,’ she says of dropping the plummy accent she honed on Downton. ‘I grew up in Essex. There’s a way of talking I grew up around. And finally being able to play a character whose accent has an Essex sound, as mine does – I loved that. I’ve been playing well-spoken for so long, to do something closer to my roots was so much fun.’
Downtown Abbey`s Star on the cover of Tatler
Out of her period dress, Michelle Dockery is one of those stars who is at first difficult to place, so familiar are we with her trussed up as Lady Mary in Downton Abbey. For Tatler’s cover shoot for the February issue, Fashion Director Sophie Pera dressed her in slick tailoring from Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton, wearing a chic yellow Chanel jacket on the cover with a generous dose of diamonds thrown in for good measure: there wasn’t a flapper hemline or elbow-length glove in sight.
